About Edge-DTN-STOR
NSF CC* CRISPIE Edge-DTN-STOR (Edge-DTN-STOR) is a high-performance research storage service built on Nextcloud and integrated with CRISPIE Data Transfer Nodes (DTN). It provides participating institutions with secure storage and multiple access methods for managing and transferring research data. Edge-DTN-STOR is made possible through the NSF CC* Regional Networking: Connectivity through Regional Infrastructure for Scientific Partnerships, Innovation, and Education (CRISPIE, NSF #2346648) award.
This guide provides you with details of creating an account and requesting storage allocation through the Edge-DTN-STOR.
Creating a NextCloud Account
Accounts for Nextcloud (Edge-DTN-STOR) are provisioned centrally for all CRISPIE participating institutions. For individual access to DTN - Edge-DTN-STOR, you need to request for storage allocation.
Requesting Storage Allocations
Storage on Edge-DTN-STOR is allocated per project or research group.

- Research faculty
- Principal Investigators (PIs)
- Designated project leads
How to Request Storage
- Go to https://nextcloud.crispie.njedge.net/ and log in using your institutional IDP. Your account will be created automatically but in a disabled state.
- Contact Support: Email crispiesupport@njedge.net or fill out the request form to get your account enabled -
- Access is granted based on institutional participation and approval
- Users will receive:
- ○ Initial access instructions
- ○ Authentication details (or SSO information, if applicable)
- ○ Nextcloud user information will be provided necessary for mounting the storage allocation

Edge-DTN-STOR supports multiple access methods to accommodate different workflows.
Web Interface (Nextcloud Web UI)
- Access via browser at: https://nextcloud.crispie.njedge.net
- Upload, download, organize, and share files
- Manage folders and permissions
- Best for interactive file management
Desktop & Command-Line Access
Users may access Edge-DTN-STOR using the following methods:
- WebDAV (Linux, macOS, Windows, HPC clusters)
- Nextcloud Desktop Client (optional, for syncing files locally)

Running Your First Data Transfer
This section demonstrates a simple example of transferring data into Edge-DTN-STOR using Nextcloud.
Example: Uploading Research Data to Edge-DTN-STOR
Step 1: Log in to Nextcloud
Open your browser and go to: https://nextcloud.crispie.njedge.net
Log in using your institutional credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to Your Project Folder
- Locate your assigned project or storage allocation folder
- If you do not see your expected folder, verify access permissions or contact support
Step 3: Upload Data
You can upload data in multiple ways:
Via Web UI
- Drag and drop files or folders into the browser window
- Suitable for small to medium datasets
Via WebDAV / Mounted Drive
- Copy files directly into the mounted Edge-DTN-STOR directory
- Recommended for large files or batch transfers

This service supports open data only (does not satisfy for example HIPAA/Health data management requirements), and does not include data redundancy or backup. Users must maintain independent backups of all stored content.
